The Hofkäserei Oberhof stands up for sustainable, environmental-friendly and high quality products. On our farm we feed the “by-product” whey our pigs. This way we feed proteins that are not used in the cheese production and would hence be lost. Worldwide the consumption of pork is criticized: in terms of nutrition pigs stand in direct competition with humans. In fact, 10 plant calories are needed to produce 1 meat calorie. However, we do not feed concentrated feeding stuffs in order to produce as much bacon as possible in very short time. Instead we fatten our pigs slowly over the period of up to a year exclusively with whey.
